Benue State has been an epicentre of killings for a long time. One of the most devastating recent incidents occurred in Yelewata, Guma local government area between June 14 and 16, 2025. Reports indicated that over 100 people were killed, with some victims burned alive in a local market, leading to mass protests in Makurdi.
Travelers are advised to avoid traveling in Benue State at night as most of the past attacks on the communities by terrorists occurred in the dark hours.
